Azerbaijan condemns EU's human rights criticism as interference in internal affairs

BAKU, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Azerbaijani Parliament (Milli Majlis) on Friday adopted a statement strongly condemning a European Parliament resolution on the country's human rights situation, denouncing the document as interference in its internal affairs.

The resolution represents yet another attempt to undermine the rule of law and meddle in Azerbaijan's judicial processes, said the statement.

It added that the resolution, influenced by specific interest groups, claims that the agreements between Azerbaijan and Armenia on Aug. 8 in Washington do not serve those groups' interests.

Sahiba Gafarova, speaker of the Milli Majlis, told the session that the resolution disregards Azerbaijan's sovereignty and the principle of non-interference enshrined in international law, and Azerbaijan would "continue to respond decisively to such biased moves."
