HONG KONG, May 20 (Xinhua) -- John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), will head a delegation to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in early June, aiming to unlock fresh business prospects and market potential in Central Asia.
Lee revealed the plan at a Tuesday press briefing, noting this trip represents the largest overseas mission launched by the incumbent HKSAR administration, both in team size and industrial diversity. The group brings together government officials and more than 60 senior business representatives spanning a wide range of industries.
The HKSAR government takes the initiative to explore Central Asian markets, aiming to forge new trade and business passages for Hong Kong and tap emerging markets brimming with development opportunities, he said.
Lee emphasized that Hong Kong will leverage its edge as a preferred platform for Chinese mainland firms going global, helping Central Asian nations fully recognize Hong Kong's market standing and core competitive advantages. These moves are expected to shore up Hong Kong's economic vitality and let local people reap more benefits from economic growth.
During the visits, Lee will hold in-depth talks with senior government officials of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to boost bilateral economic and trade cooperation and exchanges. The delegation will also engage with local business circles to showcase Hong Kong's strengths, expand business connections, conduct field inspections on local enterprises and supporting facilities, keep track of the latest local developments, explore new cooperation prospects, advance joint projects and cement a solid foundation for long-term interactions, he said.
