Kyrgyzstan sees rapid growth in electric vehicles

BISHKEK, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan has seen a rapid increase in the number of electric vehicles in recent years, according to data published Monday by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision.

In 2022, a total of 1,113 electric vehicles were registered in the country. By the end of 2025, the number rose to 15,278 units, 0.8 percent of the total vehicles nationwide.

The ministry added that more than 100 electric vehicle charging stations have been installed in Bishkek, contributing to the development of infrastructure for environmentally friendly transport and stimulating the growth of electric vehicles.

As of Jan. 1, 2026, the total number of registered vehicles in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 1,909,961 units, marking a 13 percent increase compared with the figure recorded in 2024.
