Afghan province exports fresh fruits worth over 16 mln USD in 9 months

KABUL, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Herat province in western Afghanistan has exported fresh fruits valued at over 16 million U.S. dollars over the past nine months, Provincial Government Spokesperson Mohammad Yusuf Sayedi announced on Sunday.

The 22,024 tonnes of exports include a diverse range of the province's produce, destined for various countries worldwide, said Sayedi, adding that this substantial volume has played a key role in driving economic growth and improving the livelihoods of local farmers.

Afghanistan's primary exports include fresh and dried fruits, hand-woven carpets, saffron, handicrafts, precious and semi-precious stones, while the country mainly imports medical supplies and electrical equipment.
