KABUL, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Public Health Ministry reported 1,677 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Friday, raising the total tally to 100,521, including 32,614 active cases.

The pandemic has so far claimed 4,030 lives in Afghanistan since February last year, including 87 deaths in the past 24 hours, the ministry said in a statement.

An additional 728 patients were reported during the cited period to have recovered from the coronavirus epidemic, according to the statement.

According to the ministry, 552,538 tests for the COVID-19 infection have so far been carried out in Afghanistan.
