KABUL, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Ten Taliban militants were killed and six others wounded after Afghan military stormed their position in eastern Wardak province, 35 km west of the country's capital Kabul, on Thursday night, the Ministry of Defense confirmed on Friday.

"The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) targeted a Taliban militants' aggregation in Nirkh district, Wardak province, last night, killing 10 Taliban terrorists and wounding six others," the ministry said in a statement.

Taliban militants, who captured Nirkh and neighboring Jalrez districts after heavy clashes in May, have not commented on the report so far.

While the U.S. and NATO troops have been leaving Afghanistan, violence in the country is on the rise.
