MANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reported on Friday 2,651 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily increase since Oct. 17 last year, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 571,327.

The death toll climbed to 12,247 after 46 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. Meanwhile, 561 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 524,582. (Philippines-COVID-19)

SYDNEY -- Australia's second largest city Melbourne and the whole state of Victoria where it locates will further relax COVID-19 restrictions from midnight Friday despite that the state still recorded two locally acquired cases on the same day.

According to the state government, masks will only be required on public transport, in rideshare vehicles and taxis, in sensitive settings such as aged care facilities, and in some larger retail settings including indoor shopping centers, supermarkets, department stores and indoor markets. NEW DELHI -- Security personnel of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) rescued more than 80 Rohingya refugees who had been onboard a boat drifting in the waters of Andaman Sea for 10 days, and retrieved eight dead bodies.

On Feb. 11 a boat sailed from Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar area carrying 64 female, including eight girls, and 26 male, including five young boys, an official at India's Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday. (India-Rohingya Refugees-Rescue)

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Four security personnel were killed as an explosive-laden vehicle went off in Argandab district of southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Thursday, a local official said Friday.

The official said on condition of anonymity that the militants detonated an explosive-borne military vehicle next to a security checkpoint in Baber village of Arghandab district on Thursday evening, killing four security personnel and injuring six others. (Afghanistan-Explosion)
