DAMASCUS -- The Syrian army on Wednesday killed eight militants, who were part of a group of militants that have recently carried out attacks on military and civilian buses in the desert in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, state news agency SANA reported.

After a "precise" operation, the Syrian forces in Deir al-Zour tracked down the "terrorist group" that had carried out attacks on civilian and military personnel on the road between Deir al-Zour and Palmyra city, said SANA, citing a military statement. (Syria-Terrorist Group)

HERAT, Afghanistan -- Nine people were killed and two others injured in a wagon-bus collision in Afghanistan's western Herat province on Wednesday, a local government spokesman said.

MANILA -- A 53-year-old woman was killed and five others injured in an explosion in the southern Philippine Cotabato province on Wednesday, police said.

Police said the blast occurred around 12:30 p.m. local time near a roadside waiting shed in Tulunan, a town in Cotabato province.

YAOUNDE -- The death toll from the traffic accident that occurred early Wednesday in Cameroon's West region rose to 53, and 29 others injured, the West region's governor Awa Fonka Augustine said, quoted by national television CRTV.
