Afghan police discover 10 kg drugs, arrest 4

FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Police during operations have discovered 10 kg of illicit drugs including heroin from the northern Badakhshan and the neighboring Takhar province over the past 24 hours and arrested four smugglers, officials said Wednesday.

In the first incident, police during routine operation unearthed 2 kg heroin from a passenger bus in the northern Badakhshan province late Tuesday night and arrested one person on charge of drug trafficking, provincial government spokesman Nik Mohammad Nazari said.

Similarly, 8 kg of illicit drugs including heroin and hashish have been discovered in the neighboring Takhar province over the past 24 hours and police have taken into custody three drug smugglers, provincial police spokesman Abdul Khalil Asir said.

Police have also destroyed a heroin lab in Pul-e-Khumri the capital of the northern Baghlan province on Tuesday night, the police spokesman in the province, Jawed Basharat said.
