BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

GUATEMALA CITY -- The Guatemalan government reported on Friday that President Alejandro Giammattei has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to a statement issued by the government, Giammattei underwent a COVID-19 test for the sixth time, and the test returned positive.

ADEN -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in Yemen's government-controlled provinces increased to 2,024 on Friday, as two new cases were officially recorded.

The Yemeni Health Ministry said in a brief press statement that during the past 24 hours, the number of recoveries in the government-controlled areas increased to 1,221 since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus on April 10.

PARIS -- A further 13,215 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in France on Friday, making it the highest number of infections recorded in a single day since the coronavirus outbreak, the country's Public Health Agency said.

In France, the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases now totals 428,696. Nearly 1,000 clusters are under investigation, of which 93 have been identified in the past 24 hours. The number of serious cases has increased to 571 from 535 the day before, the agency said.

DUBAI -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday announced 865 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 83,433.

At the same time, 673 more patients have recovered from the virus, taking the tally of recoveries in the UAE to 72,790, UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention said.

ANKARA -- Turkey's confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 1,771 on Friday, raising the total diagnosed patients to 299,810, the Turkish Health Ministry announced.

Meanwhile, 62 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 7,377, according to the data shared by the ministry.

RABAT -- Morocco on Friday reported 2,760 new COVID-19 cases, the biggest single-day increase so far, taking the number of infections in the country since March 2 to 97,264.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 76,690 after 1,760 new ones were added, the ministry of health said in a statement.

TASHKENT -- Uzbekistan has reported 626 COVID-19 cases over the previous 24 hours, bringing the nationwide count to 50,253, the country's health ministry said.

Uzbekistan has recorded its youngest casualty of the disease, an 11-year-old patient who had other illnesses such as chronic renal failure and anemia, the ministry said in a separate statement.
