Azerbaijan News.Net
Thursday 8th January, 2009

The Sri Lankan military has seized a rebel-held town, pounding the rebels and destroying their equipment.

Troops moved on the Tigers from the north and south of the strategic Jaffna peninsula, capturing the town of Pallai while still moving forward.

Army officials have said troops are getting close to Elephant Pass, where there are small pockets of fighting.

Pallai is a village on the northern front, while Elephant Pass is a strategic former army base to the south, which has been a stronghold of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
