Israel agrees in principle to ceasefire

Azerbaijan News.Net
Wednesday 7th January, 2009

Israel has agreed in principle to a joint Egyptian-French plan for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Under international pressure, it is believed Israel will send a senior Defence Ministry negotiator to Cairo on Thursday to discuss details of a proposal which has been mapped out in Egypt.

The Egyptian-French plan is believed to contain the primary Israeli condition that the border between Egypt and Gaza be strictly monitored to prevent Hamas smuggling arms, ammunition and rockets.

Hamas has resumed rocket attacks on Israel but there have been no reports of injuries.

Israel halted its military operations in the Gaza Strip for three hours on Wednesday to allow aid into Gaza, but its activities resumed immediately after.

A similar pause in the fighting is scheduled for Thursday and beyond.

Stirrings of a Peace Deal on Gaza?
Wednesday, Jan. 07, 2009 - For the first time since Israel began its bloody offensive on Gaza 12 days ago, the first frail signs appeared on Wednesday that an end to fighting that has left nearly 700 Palestinians dead may be near. Although details remain hazy about the Franco-Egyptian peace proposal that’s serving as the basis of a possible truce, the initiative appears to have helped inspire Wednesday’s minor miracle of a three-hour cease-fire in Gaza to allow aid workers access to what is being described as a humanitarian calamity there.

]
The three-hour cessation of fighting today was the first of what both Israeli and Hamas officials said would be a parenthesis of calm every 24 or 48 hours. That pause is intended to create a humanitarian corridor allowing aid workers to get badly needed food, water and medical assistance to Gaza’s bloodied and traumatized population. According to U.N. officials in Gaza, the area’s 1 million residents have been without electricity since the Israeli assault to silence Hamas missile firings began; 75% of those inhabitants are deprived of running water, and many can’t risk going out for provisions because of the intensity of the violence.

Agreement by both Hamas and Israel to stage a daily cease-fire is both a measure of just how serious the humanitarian crisis has become and a small reason for hope that an enduring truce may be possible soon. The agreement coincided with a peace initiative announced on Tuesday night by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, which included what could be a significant concession by the Egyptian leader.

The plan is as basic as it is alluring: the two leaders called for an immediate end to aggression by both Hamas and Israel. They also proposed reinforced policing of Egypt’s border with Gaza to ensure that Hamas could not rearm itself with the same missiles whose firing provoked Israel’s offensive in the first place. Those and other measures had been floated by Sarkozy and a group of European Union representatives who led peace missions in the region on Monday and Tuesday. Their proposals, however, were largely met by a disheartening dismissal from the various players in the conflict, including Mubarak.

And then?

What happens when, less than 5 minutes after the cease-fire starts, Hamas resumes sending rockets into Israel?

Work on the vibes man!

Anyone can criticize governments and 'bad' people but who really is without sin? There’s little use in putting out more bad vibes about it. Peace usually happens when the energy is good. Peace begins with one person at a time doing little things to make those around them feel a little happier.

Hamas, leadership and Israel might agreed in ceasefire but the run away member still luanch
rockets to Israel proper.Where are the leaders the nation that has common sence. The answer to you is non.As long as the other nation is being needlessly supply the, who ever the group with the rockets to destroy the Israel cities, the armed forces of Israel will not stop coming in to find and destroy his enemy. Why can they live in peace and prosperity with Israel. They want Gaza strip and they got it. They cross the border and work in Israel to earn their lively hood and now they want to destroy and spread death not only to themselves but also to Israel.Guns, bombs is not the answer to peace.

Anonymous What be them steps upon Wisdom?

salaam,
In the taking or giving or keeping of LIFE?
That you call witnesses to any exchanges worthy of an arguement or fight to keep the records straight because in LIFE,
Came two gardens,,,one garden made for the feet to walk upon a foundational matter,
For the other garden is the female and that was not made for the feet to walk upon,
So when exchanges takes place upon either of those two from Wisdom the witnesses are not found missing upon the claims made upon OWNERSHIP law of WISDOM.
