Pakistan PM dismisses security chief over Mumbai statement

Azerbaijan News.Net
Wednesday 7th January, 2009

The Prime Minister of Pakistan has sacked his National Security Advisor Mahmood Durrani.

The announcement from Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's office came only hours after Durrani confirmed on Pakistani television that the lone surviving gunman from the attacks on Mumbai was a Pakistani national.

It was the first time a government official had confirmed the nationality of Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, who is in Indian custody.

An official statement from the prime minister’s office said Durrani was sacked because he issued 'irresponsible statements' on national security issues, without consultation.
