German industrialist commits suicide

A German billionaire has committed suicide due to money problems.

Adolf Merckle, broken by the financial crisis, saw his business empire run into trouble with US$535 million dollar losses due to poor share purchases.

He was ranked as the world's 94th richest person in 2008.

His family companies still control a number of German businesses which employ about 100,000 workers.

The 74-year-old's body was found on Monday near railway tracks in southern Germany.

Mr Merckle is survived by his four children.
