Wednesday 3rd December, 2008

British Airways is said to be in talks with Australian airline Qantas about a possible merger.

BA has confirmed the reports by saying it is exploring a potential merger with Qantas Airways Limited via a dual-listed company structure.

Shortly before BA's announcement there had been rumours that the two airlines were in advanced merger talks to create an $8 billion global carrier.

In Australia on Tuesday, the Government released a paper to say it was proposing to lift the 25 per cent limit on individual foreign ownership and the 35 per cent limit on ownership by a foreign airline.
