Copyright magazines hit the Internet
Azerbaijan News.Net Friday 15th August, 2008
Digital piracy is worrying the US magazine industry.
Facing a decline in newsstand sales, magazine publishers are concerned a new web site has encouraged people to upload popular current magazines.
Visitors to the site are able to read copies of current titles, including People and Men's Health in their entirety.
The offshore site, which is proving difficult to close down, has nearly 20,000 registered users.
Intellectual property lawyers for the magazine publishers are calling it a flagrant violation of copyright laws.
But the web site has countered by saying that its copies are no different from magazines shared in a doctor's office or hair dressing salon. Email this story to a friend
